Captain Pantoja and the Special Service - film and book

as far as I know this is the only book with same humor written by Vargas Llosa. 

I read it. 

I also read half of The Time of the Hero (La ciudad y los perros, literally The City and the Dogs) where there is nothing to lough... he won a nobel for this book and if one is interested in education and military discipline might need to read this other book...

The novel was adapted into two films. The first was made in 1975 and was co-directed by Mario Vargas Llosa himself. The second film was made in 2000 and was directed by Francisco J. Lombardi.
