Animals, tour operators are against the imprisonment in circuses and zoos.

 Now it's our turn

IL FATTO QUOTIDIANO

The use of animals in shows made by circuses, marine parks and those imprisoned in zoos are, even today, the first source of entertainment provided to tourists, generating billions of dollars / euros each year. At what cost? Health problems, mental and behavioral disorders, reduced life expectancy, deprivation of their natural habitat, disintegration of family units, captive breeding programs, administration of drugs and sedatives to limit the risk of animals attacking humans.

People continue to visit these places of imprisonment, so companies have no intention of closing the gates. Activists, ethologists, veterinarians, journalists, bloggers have long been fighting to "open the cages" and thanks to their "work" something is changing. For a few years now, various travel companies have finally taken a stand against captivity. A big step forward, there is no doubt, even if many other choices or positions that are not always impeccable could be contested.

The holidays are almost over for everyone, but if you still have to travel for pleasure or if you travel often for work, find out, choosing when possible those companies that have lined up against animal captivity. For advertising reasons I do not name names, avoiding - to those who are ready to launch into mere speculation - to waste time writing, for example, "took the bribes from such companies or companies", also offering them the opportunity to be less off topic and more constructive.

Instead...

I can tell those interested in learning more about the topic that browsing the web will find airlines and tour operators that do not promote and sell tickets for attractions where animals are kept prisoners. Some companies already collaborate with charitable organizations to protect animals and their ecosystem, supporting the creation of a space in South Africa where they can safeguard the big cats. Several US airlines have closed down all relations with Sea World, the chain of marine parks. Two large Canadian airlines have denounced it before the country itself approved the law that defines illegal holding of whales, dolphins and seals.

An online tour operator that also publishes reviews of hotels, restaurants and other travel-related content has announced that it no longer sells tickets to hundreds of attractions where travelers have contact with wild animals kept in captivity, such as swimming with dolphins , selfie with tigers or lions, riding on elephants or other animals, etc. A travel website immediately followed suit, eliminating any activity involving interactions with wildlife and removing those that violate animal protection guidelines, also launching a portal to educate travelers.

Appreciable choices, but the decisive fact remains that our individual choices are decisive for moving the balance sharply to the detriment of those who live using animals. Can it be educational, and above all just, caress a drugged tiger, ride an elephant, see an animal in a cage?

By choosing not to visit zoos, circuses, marine parks, we will help put an end to the business of these companies that live on the skin of animals, creating a positive domino effect: take profits from their tormentors!
